Summer is here in full swing, and its time to bring out your swim wear! As a travel blogger I always need to have a swimsuit handy. And with the hot Joburg summer days, there’s nothing better than a swim to cool you down.
Swimsuit shopping has never been easy for me. I’m short and curvy with boobs and a bum! It has taken me years to figure out which swimwear is flattering on me. Only recently did I start wearing bikinis, though I feel more comfy in them with cute little board shorts or a cover-up kaftan.

My top swimwear picks from Superbalist
I’m all about swimwear that is comfortable (and flattering) rather than fussy. Who needs to worry about a wardrobe malfunction when you’re playing volleyball on the beach or taking a SUP lesson. I tend to go with simpler styles. I like that Superbalist has such a huge range of trendy swimwear to choose from. I’ve picked out some of my favourites from their new women’s swimwear range.
Classic black one piece
I love this classic black Fiji swimsuit from Dorina. It’s simple, yet elegant and flattering. It could also be worn as a bodysuit paired with a cute little shorts or a skirt. And its only R299, which I think is a real bargain.
Classic black bikini top
You can’t go wrong with a black bikini top. It’s the “little black dress” of your swimwear collection. This Fiji bandeau bikini top features underwire padding which makes it an ideal holiday item. I like that the straps can be taken off, and that it can also be worn under any summer outfit for spontaneous dips in the pool!
High waisted bikini bottoms
High waisted bikini bottoms are so chic and work wonders covering up the bumps and love handles. I absolutely love tropical prints, they epitomise that holiday feeling… even if you’re just chilling at a friends pool, you can feel like you’re on vacation. This fun high waisted banana-inspired bikini bottom can be paired with a sunshine yellow or green bikini top.
Cover up with a summer poncho
Summer ponchos and kaftans are a must have. Not only do they allow me to feel a little less body conscious, I really like the boho look, and they provide some sun protection too. They’re great for festivals and beach trips alike and pair well with big floppy hats and your favourite bikini. This Parry paisley summer poncho is on point.
