Doing travel differently with Open Africa

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”
Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

The best part about travel is the new  experiences. It’s the unexpected moments that are the best, the ones that surprise you, open you up to seeing the world differently and that make the best memories.

It’s adventure time! I’ve been selected by Open Africa as one of five bloggers to go on an epic 5-day trip holiday somewhere. The destination is a secret. The only brief that we have is to do travel differently and travel with an open mind.

The main reason I decided to accept this campaign is that it promotes rural tourism and responsible tourism, topics that I’m passionate about. Open Africa is a social enterprise that aims to stimulate rural development by leveraging communities’ collective tourism assets. They do this by connecting remote areas with travel markets in a sustainable and innovative way.

There are some cool sponsors on board too. Due South has also been teasing us all week on Instagram with offers of cool gear to pack our bags with. Here’s what I have packed in my bag so far… a sleeping bag, battery pack, trail shoes, binoculars and a pair of sunglasses! Random but cool.

I’ll be travelling with my photographer friend Yann Macherez to our mystery destination.  The only other clues we have are a TomTom GPS, a Hertz rental car, a flight somewhere (thanks Flight Centre!).  We were also told to bring our passports!

Follow our adventures on Twitter and Instagram, but following the #OpenAfrica hashtag and our Twitter handles @Mzansigirl & @YannMacherez. You can also win a trip for two on one of Open Africa’s self-drive routes valued at R30 000. Enter here.

Let the adventures begin!!
