I’m really digging South African-Canadian urban soul singer Zaki Ibrahim‘s new music video ‘Go Widdit.  If you haven’t heard of the uber-talented Zaki before, then best you have a listen.  She’s the most eclectic local female artist I’ve heard in a while.

Her music blends pop, indie, soul, Hip-hop and afro beat sounds into audio goodness.  I saw Zaki perform live a few months back and was won over.  Besides her divaesque stage presence, her soulful voice and catchy beats really got me grooving and wanting more.

Digging the video as much as I am?  It was directed by Zansi Tisaini and stars Joburg’s own Vintage dance crew, who are also awesome live.  According to the Youtube description:

The video was conceived as a return to the brash, sexy and fun R&B / pop videos of the 90’s. Dance group, Vintage, are the embodiment of fashion, irreverence and a DIY ethic and are the perfect background to Zaki’s cool and sexy performance. Combined with stark design elements and dance, the result is a fresh approach to the African pop video.

Check out more of Zaki Imbrahim’s tunes on Youtube.  Even better, support Mzansi music and buy her album, Every Opposite,  here. It’s her first full-length album and was produced by Tiago Correia-Paulo og Tumi & the Volume and 340ml fame.
