taking the plunge

So,  I’m finally taking the plunge and not letting this WordPress geek stuff intimidate me.  You’d think it wouldn’t be so difficult considering I’m a social bunny,  tweet a lot and am fairly active on social media.  Let me take a few deep breaths…Here it goes – my first post!

I’ve been thinking about this blog for a few months almost a year now. The main problem has been deciding whether this should be a personal blog or a work/industry related blog.  I work in the tourism industry, and without sounding too presumptuous, I consider myself to be a tourism industry specialist of sorts.  On a personal level, I’m passionate about travel, Africa,  and most especially Mzansi.  Actually, the REAL problem is that I’m just procrastinate too much and can be a bit of a perfectionist at times, which basically prevents me from getting anything done!

My first inspirations for this blog came from the awesome speakers at the awesome South African Youth Travel Confederation (SAYTC) conference in Paternoster last June.  My latest inspiration for finally getting off my lazy ass and blogging have been the awesome Joburg bloggers, 2 summers, Story of Bing and Martina in Jozi. These Joburg passionistas have inspired me with their regular, professional and well written blogs on all the fabulous stuff they get up to in and around Jozi.

So, after all that rambling here’s what  I’d like this blog to be –  some thoughts on the tourism industry, my travel experiences, and possibly some stuff about social media and travel, an area that is fascinating me at the moment.  Ooh, and expect cool stuff on Mzansi culture,  music & Jozi events – think  festivals, daytrips,  heritage and maybe even fashion.

Finally here I am, from the twitterverse to the blogosphere,  and it wasn’t so bad after all. Going to give myself a little pat on the back now.  Thanks for reading!
