Mzansi Music Fridays: My Cape Town by iScream & the Chocolate Stix

I’m a huge fan of South African music. To celebrate weekends, I’ve decided that Friday posts should feature some kick-ass Mzansi tunes.  So here’s to the first of many Mzansi Music Friday posts.

In light  of me going to Cape Town this weekend for the Getaway Travel Blog Conference and to salute the awesomeness of Cape Town Tourism’s #LoveCapeTown campaign,  here’s the funky tune ‘My Cape Town’ by Cape Town band iScream & the Chocolate Stix.

One of the many cool things about this video is that it was shot with no budget. The song features some of Cape Town’s best spots and celebrates what it means to be Capetonian, just to make the rest of us jealous.

iScream & the Chocolate Stix was formed in 2009 and My Cape Town, their debut single, was realeased in 2010. They’ve recently made the finals of Converse’s Get Out of the Garage Competition which gives emerging bands the change to play at at London’s iconic 100  Club.

If you liked what you hear, vote for them to win. If they do you could be joining these crazy guys in London!

My Cape Town

Oh, and here are the lyrics just in case you want to sing along. You know you do 🙂

My Cape Town

Look what you’ve made
Cape Town the vision of my dreams
And I know
They’d love to be just like you

My Cape Town
My Cape Town
They wanna be just like you
My Cape Town
My Cape Town
La la la la la la la

My Cape Town city she’s beautiful
Where we party till the dusk
Till the dust breaks dawn
And the sun comes up in the early morn
Welcome to Cape Town city

Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela
Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela

From the shores of Camps Bay
Picturesque sunsets
And pretty faces from here to
Plumstead
Khayelitsha
Gugulethu
and Bishop’s Court mansions
Send my shout out Muizenberg
Cape Town to Atlantis.

They think you’re fake
But they don’t know you like I do
But I know
They’d love to be just like you

My Cape Town
My Cape Town
They wanna be just like you
My Cape Town
My Cape Town
La la la la la la la

Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela
Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela

Walking through the streets of the CBD
to Long Street
Green Market
Take a left on Bree
Up on the cable car
Rolling on the table top
See the cloud cover coming
Over to the harbour drops

2010
Kick off
Mzanzi we united
I see a sea of fans blow their vuvuzelas in excitement
Romance and vibrance
Afterparty starts on Robben Island
My Cape Town
One of Africa’s true diamonds

So, you’re not so fake
Coz they don’t know you like I do
But I know
They’d love to be just like you

My Cape Town
My Cape Town
They wanna be just like you
My Cape Town
My Cape Town
la la la la la la la

My Cape Town
My Cape Town
You know I’ll always love you

Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela
Vu vuvuzela
Vuzela
Vu vuvuzela
Vuvuzela
They’d love to be just like you
