Mzansi music legends – Mafikizolo
September 19, 2013

It’s been too long since I’ve done a music post. I love everything about this music video from Mafikizolo!  I love the West African influence fused with Mzansi Afro house beats, the Ndebele village setting, the gorgeous dresses by singer Nhlanhla Nciza and the super funky dance moves by Joburg’s hottest dance group, The Vintage Cru.

Mafikizolo ft Uhuru – Khona

”Khona”is a Zulu  word meaning ‘there’ or ‘at that place’. The song’s meaning is rather sad, euphemising death and broken hearts and calls for people that are on the other side to come back. For more on the lyrics read this post.

Mafikizolo – Kwela

If you didn’t grow up dancing to Mafikizolo, here’s one of their classic tracks, Kwela, which references the Sophiatown swing sounds of  South Africa in the ’60s.

Too much love for Mafikizolo and their awesome Mzansi music!

I LOVE Mafikizolo! Thanks for sharing – haven’t seen this one – being a bit older I grew up with Juluka and Savuka – went to see Johnny Clegg – an intimate evening last night – if the show is on near you Do It! It was amazing.

  • First of all, thanks for sharing the link to my Khona article here. Secondly, thank you for sharing this Kwela’s video. Please I will need to know more about it. I have couple of questions to ask, so that I can write another article on this.

In support of good music. We have to keep good music golden. Thanks. Please add me on Facebook. Same name. Cheers.
