When writing my last post, I realised that my first anniversary for my blog had recently passed and I hadn’t even realised it. No surprise here, I’m not much good with birthdays and anniversaries on the best of days. Technically I started the blog 2 years back but it took me an entire year to actually write my second post. I wish I’d started earlier. I ‘ve really realised my creativity, inspiration and gees* in blogging about what I love. Thanks to you all for your continued support.
Its never to late to celebrate, so here’s a little giveaway for you Joburg readers, to help celebrate with me. I’ve got 4 vouchers for High Tea at one of Jozi’s top boutique hotels to give away. Happy blogoversary!
High Tea @ 54 on Bath
I recently had opportunity to celebrate my cousin Kiara’s 16th birthday with a lovely High Tea at Tsogo Sun’s luxurious 54 on Bath Hotel in Rosebank. I’m not usually a fancy pants type of girl, but sometimes its just nice to be spoilt just a little. It was only the second time I’d been to a high tea, and it certainly felt like a treat.
The High Tea at 54 on Bath was posh enough to feel special, but not intimidatingly grand. Usually the hotel hosts their high tea in their terrace garden, but I happened to visit on one of the chilliest day this winter, so we were relieved that they decided to move us to the lounge, right in front of a roaring fire. The hotel lounge was smart and modern with huge comfy couches, that were difficult to get off after all the indulgence.
There was an excellent selection of loose leaf teas from Ceylon and Darjeeling to chai, green tea, organic rooibos and mint tea, which even came with a tea timer to get you the perfect brew. For those who want coffee, yes you can have a cappucinno too, but I really recommend ordering at least one tea for the proper high tea experience.
Tea is accompanied by a fantastic selection of sweet and savoury treats. Being more of a savoury person, I headed straight for the dainty little cucumber sandwiches and the asparagus and salmon quiche… so good! The cakes were delectable, but small enough that you didn’t feel like a glutton. My favourite had to be the scones, perfectly fluffy with lashings of jam and cream. Yumness.
High Tea is a great way to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, baby showers and bridal showers and the like, but also just good for a little dose of self-indulgence. The management at 54 on Bath was super efficient. When they were informed that we were celebrating a birthday they were nice enough to make the occasion special for the birthday girl.
The manager also gave us a little tour of the newly refurbished hotel including their super luxe suits. I was impressed by all the amazing local art on the walls. All in all it was a lovely way to spend a winter afternoon… fantastic family, yummy food and a warm fire. My tip for high tea: don’t eat lunch before, you must go hungry to do it justice!
