Happy in South Africa

Not since Gangnam Style has there been such a craze for making fan vid’s from a pop song, and it’s easy to see why – Pharrell William’s ‘Happy’ song doesn’t only sound good it makes you feel good too. So good you want to clap your hands and sing from the rooftops.

Yes, Happy really does makes people happy, and spin off’s of the video have taken over Youtube. Fan videos from all over the globe are going viral.  Down in Mzansi, the Happy movement is in full swing.

Happy Johannesburg

It was just a matter of time till some rad Joburgers made a Jozi version. Great to see some of my favourite places in Joburg – Braamfontein,  downtown Jozi,  Nelson Mandela Bridge, Soweto towers – featured. Kudos to School of Thought ZA, for capturing the spirit of Joburg!

Happy Cape Town

Of course South Africans are generally happy people, and we love to dance. It’s a perfect match really. Here’s the Happy Cape Town video that was released a few weeks ago. Just a little reminder of why we love the Mother City.

Happy Durban

Durban got some Happy love too, this time from East Coast radio.  Even though this vid is made by a radio station, it’s still pretty cool. I love the images of the beachfront, skaters surfers and the iconoc Moses Mabhida stadium – it really makes me miss my hometown.

Share the happiness

You can’t help but feel wanderlust – and if you’re South African, a deep sense of Mzansi pride – when watching these video’s. I love that each of the vids capture the energy of their respective cities. They definitely make me feel happy.

Want to feel even happier? Check out some of the best Happy videos from the rest of Africa – Happy Africa.

“We should just declare “Happy” song as the travel slogan of the planet. It’s much better than any organized marketing effort, really.” – Rafat Ali

Are there any other cool South African / African Happy videos that I’ve missed?
