Aweh! Africa’s only travel blog conference is back! I made this collage* after last years Getaway Travel Blog conference (GTBC) in Cape Town. That was almost a year ago when I attended my first GTBC as a newbie travel blogger. I learnt heaps about how to improve my blogging skills and got to network with passionate travel bloggers, travel industry and digital media people.
The highlight for me was my blog getting a mention in one of the speaker’s presentations despite the MzansiGirl blog being barely a month old at the time. This year, I’ve been invited to speak at the GTBC conference! I really can’t believe how far this blog has come in a year. I’m super excited and scared at the same time… Its intimidating being on the same programme as heavy weights on the South Africa travel blogging and digital media space.
I’m delighted to see Anton Crone – one of my favourite travel writers and photographers, and Ishay Govender-Ypma, queen of SA foodie travel bloggers, on the programme. Digital superstars Mike Sharman and Dave Duarte will again be presenting their tips on how to be awesome in the blogosphere. More on the GTBC programme here.
If you’re a travel blogger or in the travel industry, I highly recommend attending the conference. It was the best R700 I spent last year, and really motivated me to get my blog rolling. As a blogger, you’ll learn about improving your writing, using social media, monetising your blog and working with travel companies. As industry, you’ll learn about how to rock your corporate blog and get to network with top local travel bloggers and writers… never-mind the legendary after party!
