Food, Wine, Music & Comedy Festival at Maritzburg’s Cascades!
October 6, 2017

I can honestly say I haven’t spent much time in Pietermaritzburg. It’s one of those towns that I seem drive past on my way to Durban on the KZN Midlands. So I’m pretty stoked to be heading there this weekend for the inaugural Cascades Food, Wine and Lifestyle Festival.

Wine, gourmet food music in a chilled outdoor setting… yes please!   I’m planning to spend the weekend sipping South Africa’s fine vintages, craft beers, local gins, indulging in gourmet food while listening to live music and having a few laughs. The Cascades Lifestyle festival has over 100 wines to be experienced,  I look forward to discovering the best of Maritzburg’s food scene all in one place.

Food & Wine

A bit more about the festival… There are over 100 wines to be tasted, and over 40 stalls offering all sorts of yummy artisanal foods, jewellery and art. Besides food trucks, some of the local restaurants represented include Sagewood, Olive and Oil and Atasca Portuguese.

All the cheese, gimme ALL the cheese 🙂

Live music

Music wise, the festival celebrates the local with PMB superstar and 2016 Idols winner, Noma Khumalo, Durban singer songwriter Don Seagreen, and new talent  Michaela-Skye on the line-up with the SA Breweries Music Bus DJs  providing  dancing tunes.

What would a festival be without a laugh or two? The festival is being hosted by East Coast Radio’s best funster, Keri Miller, and comedian Neil Green. Easily one of Durban’s funniest and most respected comedians, Green is a rising star in the SA comedy industry.  The man literally has jokes for days and will be giving the audiences the best of his comedy act on Friday night.

Saturday night offers audiences KZN comedian, Mo Vawda, considered one of the best of the new generation of Durban comedians. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Joburg comedy scene, so looking forward to what KZN has to offer!
