I admit it, I’m bad with money. Its not that I’m a spendthrift, I just don’t budget well, and I definitely don’t save enough. Lucky for me I have a pretty good realtionship with debt – I generally stay away from it and pay off my credit card every month. I don’t spend what I don’t have. On the other hand, I don’t save much either.
Being a freelancer and not having a steady income is tough. Sending invoices and managing cash flow is so much harder than being a salaried employee. Of course, I love the freedom that freelancing gives me, but it has made me realise how kak I am at managing my finances.
I’ve never been good at budgeting, and the only thing I conciously save for is travel (it’s a priority). It’s about time I get my act together. This toxic laissez-faire relationship has got to stop. I know I can do better in conciouslly managing my money.
The problem is that it all seems like admin to me, and if there’s one thing I hate, it’s admin. That’s where 22seven’s free money management app comes in. The app has helped me see new things about my money – all my accounts and transactions are together in one place, with the help of great data visualisations.
It beats an Excel spreadsheet or pouring through bank statements anyday. The app shows you what you have, exactly what you’re spending your money on, what you owe and what you can borrow. It also generates a budget for you, based on your expenses and helps out with your tax return (priceless!).
Yes, it time for me to #startover, and take charge of this relationship. Maybe you’d like to try too?
