Africa travel

Its fairly obvious that I’m passionate about African travel and that I’m obsessed with sharing my love of Africa. I also love social media, Twitter in particular. So here’s my call to action:

Creating an African travel movement

Let’s create an African travel movement on Twitter. Lets share our stories of Africa, our destinations, our cultures, our music and our heritage, and raise awareness of how amazing Africa is. There are already many websites and blogs out there that are sharing their love of Africa. I’d like to begin curating it.

#Afritravel

Use the #Afritravel hashtag in your tweets to tag content related to African travel. If you’re on Instagram, tag your African travel pics there too. I’ve started a page on RebelMouse, that will feature all my tweets tagged with the #Afritravel hashtag.

So if you love about African travel, please tag all your African travel related  tweets with #Afritravel. The best content will be retweeted and shared.  If I get enough support, I will also start a Facebook page.

I’d also like to curate a list of bloggers passionate about African travel. If you know any, please send me link in the comments below.

Join me is sharing the African travel love!

Brilliant idea. Count me in. I’m already using the #Afritravel hashtag, and I tweet only African travel, nothing about the rest of the world. There’s more than enough excitement on this beautiful and diverse continent!

  • Heather says:

This is great news. Have not been travelling a lot in the recent past, but some gems from the past will be shared.

  • Hi Merushka, wat a great idea and yes I am passionate about Africa. The blog on my web site is about all my travels in Southern Africa and my new web site http://www.goingdutchinsouthafrica.com I will be focusing on travel in Southern Africa as a single mom with a little baby because YES, this is all possible unlike a lot of people might think!!

    • mzansigirl says:

      Hi Jessy

Thanks for joining the movement. Your Single mom travels in Southern Africa is a great niche, as I don’t think there are many people out there who think its possible. You’re an inspiration!

Jessy, wish i’d read your articles before taking a month long trip in SA this May 2013 with a 10 month old. I was amazed at how few places have high chairs. In agony handling a writhing wild Pixie trying to feed her. Your DIY high chair solution is genius. Is this just a clever fabric & knot affair, or a specific sewed piece of kit ? More details ..Please share!

  • Mornay says:

Heya Merushka, wow, what a wonderful creation…I focus all my tweets on South Africa, but will surely increase my focus area to Africa! See you on the twitterverse! Thanks for all your interesting tweets!

  • Priya says:

This is excellent! Been living in Rwanda with 2 young kids for past 3 years and travelled to Kenya, Uganda, Bujumbura, DRC. Amazing experiences. When I tell SAs to come visit, I get blank looks. So sad they don’t know what they are missing!

    • mzansigirl says:

Hi Priya. Thanks, do join the #Afritravel movement. You’re lucky to live in Rwanda, I dream of visiting it! Check out my previous post, ‘Dreaming of Rwanda’.
